Home-brewers know a thing or two about getting the right temperature when it comes to that all important fermentation period. But if you live anywhere in the world you know the weather can change or be inconsistent, especially when it is time for you to ferment.

Looks like the Hangar 24 Craft Brewery out in Redlands, CA is at it again.  With their new expansion almost complete the Tap Room is going to be demolished this weekend to make way for the new and improved Tap Room along with the migration of two of their tanks.  With this renovation they will be adding much needed square footage to the interior tasting room.

OK, so we all know that kegs are great at parties and for the most part they are very reliable for their purpose. However, we know these kegs weigh a lot and unless you got some strong friends who like throwing out their back; they are not too easy to move around. We were fortunate enough to recently receive a new product from beertubes.com and it can help alleviate that mobility issue.

So this past weekend I finally had the opportunity to sit down and watch How Beer Saved The World. The movie takes an interesting approach to beer and how it has influenced basically all aspects of history and modern life as we know it.  The movie begins with a University Anthropologist describing the agricultural revolution and how it really began with barely.  Dr. Thomas Shellhammer explains that hunter gatherers stumbled upon a primitive form of fermentation and then, the first “accidental beer” was born.  The movie takes it a step further and says that mathematics came about because of the need to formulate a way to keep track of the amount of beer being made.

33 Bottles of BeerOnce you discover craft beer, you tend to want to explore it further and further but where do you keep tabs on what you have already tried without BierBuzz.com? As we walked into this venue I was struck at how intimate and well set-up the area was, and, as I came to find out later in the night, some of the proceeds were going to charity (Pomona Regional Hospital). I was stoked to find out that my new brewery of choice, Stone Brewery, was going to be present. It was my lucky night because I got to try out that beer I mentioned in my other blog “Bitter Beer Get a Bad Rap,” Double B@stard Ale. This beer is known as an American Strong Ale … A bit too bitter for the man who has come to love these ales, but I leave the choice up to you.

Bier

The Alpine Bier Fest was a darn good time with great beers and great people. Housed in a giant tent that will be used for the upcoming Oktoberfest Beer Extravaganza, we felt wide open and ready to explore. Along the walls, most all of the taps were numbered, and every guest was given a list telling them number, brewer, beer, ABV and style from each tap or table. With over 100 beers to choose from this list was held close like a treasure map.  For the $40 entry you also got a wonderful tasting glass and twenty stubs for the beer. I was much less waiting at each tap, plus, everyone got to pick the brewers brains about their beers. And everyone knows brewers love to talk about their beer!

We got to try some very unique flavors, such as Stones' “Enjoy By 9/21/12”, this is a mind blowing Double IPA that hits with a hops and a strong citrus that will spin your head. Enjoy indeed.

Bottle Popper

Opening your bottle of beer or soda with a generic bottle opener has been done from almost the beginning of time (well since bottles have been around...).  Some have even used "alternative methods" in opening their bottles (see episode 2 on how to open a bottle with a lighter) but what we have here is quite a neat contraption.

Beer is The Answer at Screens 'n' Suds Big Event

When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.
