How do you finish off a week as exciting as Los Angeles Beer Week? With an impressive craft beer festival!

With more than 100 local and national breweries, the LA County Brewers Guild is presenting the SoCal stop of this year’s Beer Camp on Tour. Taking place tomorrow afternoon in Long Beach, CA at the historic Queen Mary Events Park, Beer Camp on Tour is a creation of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. In addition to the many delicious beers being poured, tomorrow’s event will also include some of the area’s best food trucks, live music and entertainment.

“Everyone has fun at Beer Camp – attendees, participating brewers, and my family,” says Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada.  “It showcases the high-quality, craft beer being brewed in America and gives attendees access to the brewers themselves.”  Created by Sierra Nevada, Beer Camp celebrates the spirit of community and collaboration that drives independent brewers nationwide.  Beer Camp on Tour is visiting eight different cities this month, with the other stops being in Portland, ME, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Austin, and Seattle. All proceeds from Beer Camp ticket sales go to brewing non-profits and local brewers’ guilds.

“It’s pretty fun, to be honest. There’s a lot of excitement nationally about craft beer,” says Brian Grossman, co-owner and brewmaster of Sierra Nevada (and, yes, son of the aforementioned Ken Grossman). “We try to spread it out across the country as best we can” and hold it in areas where craft beer is more popular. “This project is a unique twist on things and has been received well.”

The location is one with which the younger Grossman is satisfied. “We were here last year and it went so well; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It was awesome last year, so we’re doing it again in Long Beach.” The younger Grossman added, “It’s hard to go wrong with the Queen Mary.” The younger Grossman added “What I’m looking forward to tomorrow is really about that guest appreciation and to feel the vibe. I really like that feel and vibe of the festival.”

A new aspect of the festival that they will be adding is a rare beer section. For the early access ticket-holders, they will get a pour of a new rare beer every quarter-hour for the early access hour. For the remainder of the festival, attendees will have access every hour to these unique beers.

The craft beer at the festival poured will be from dozens of SoCal breweries, including Bagby Beer Company, Beachwood Brewing, Bottle Logic Brewing, MacLeod Ale Brewing Company, and Stone Brewing, as well as national brewers like 21st Amendment, Allagash Brewing Company, Avery Brewing Co., and Sierra Nevada. There will be a dozen food trucks, with a variety of cuisine for festivalgoers. Live music will be played by The Expanders and Orgone.

“We’ve loved teaming up with Sierra Nevada in the past and the level of comradery, collaboration and fun at Beer Camp is unparalleled by any other festival,” said Laurie Porter, co-founder of Smog City Brewing. “We are so excited to be a part of it this year, sharing what we love most with the community.”

Alongside Beer Camp on Tour, Beer Camp Across the World is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and 12 breweries from around the globe. Expanding on the concept first introduced in 2014, this year’s one-time collaboration pack represents unique geographies and brewing styles and is only available at select retail outlets. These 12 unique beers, along with hundreds of others, will be available for a special tasting at the festival. (Stay tuned for a future piece here at BierBuzz about this collaboration pack.)

Tickets are still available for sale online for this special event, taking place from 1-5pm in Long Beach at the Queen Mary Events Park.
