Hoppiness in the form of a new seasonal and a new flagship beer are now being served up by Ninkasi.

For its summer seasonal, Ninkasi Brewing Company has unveiled a new look for its summer seasonal, Maiden the Shade Summer IPA (6.8% ABV). First brewed in 2009, this IPA boasts an impressively balanced hop profile of eight select varieties paired with a smooth drinkability.

A Summer IPA, the beer captures a complex hop profile—bold, dank and bursting with floral notes—and an exceptional drinkability. It as a green, grassy aroma, yet tempered by fruits, accompanied by a candied peachiness and floralness on the palate. One aspect that makes it easily drinkable is that it has a fairly smooth mouthfeel for an IPA.

“Brewed with eight hop varieties, this Summer IPA has a multi-layer hop complexity that is bold, floral and flavorful,” explains Ninkasi founding brewer and co-founder, Jamie Floyd. “Paired with flaked barley, this beer has a smooth drinkability, perfect for pairing with outdoor festivals or any outside gathering.”

The updated look of this beer follows the evolution of Ninkasi’s branding, displaying a more hand-illustrated design created by its in-house team of artists. Crafted to celebrate summer and inspired by the annual Oregon Country Fair, a three-day gathering held on 280 acres west of Eugene with music, food and culture, Maiden the Shade quickly became a favorite way to revel in the season.

“This beer is rooted in summer festivals and celebrations, so we wanted its packaging to highlight the palette of the season,” says Nick Yarger, Ninkasi’s in-house art director.  “So much of what we do is inspired by our hippie roots with a dash of rock ’n’ roll; this new art draws from the style of American Traditional tattoos, bringing into detail the beauty of the summer maiden.”

In addition to this summer seasonal, Ninkasi also has a new beer that has joined its year-round Flagship Series. Pacific Rain, a Northwest Pale Ale brewed with lava-filtered water from the McKenzie River and a band of four flavorful hops is the newest addition to Ninkasi’s year-round offerings, to celebrate the Pacific Northwest. While Ninkasi has some IPAs as part of their Flagship Series, as well as a helles lager and an oatmeal stout, Pacific Rain is now their year-round pale ale.

Pacific Rain is a flavorful Northwest Pale Ale whose foundation is built on quality water. Brewed with water from Oregon’s McKenzie River, the water undergoes natural filtration through lava rock before reaching the brewery, making for the perfect brewing ingredient. Paired with four distinguished hops—Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and Nugget—this Northwest Pale Ale captures the Pacific Northwest’s love of hops while remaining crisp and easy to sip.

At 5.4% ABV, Pacific Rain is certainly a sessionable beer and drinks really easily. With a bright, green, delectable floral aroma, Pacific Rain invites the drinker to a soft mouthfeel and candified peachy palate, making for an easy drinking beer.

“The sweetness of the malt lifts the hop flavor and aroma without intensifying the bitterness, bringing about juicy citrus, tropical and slightly dank tones,” says Jamie Floyd, Ninkasi co-founder and founding brewer. “We’re super happy to release a full-flavored Pale Ale true to Ninkasi.”

The Pacific Rain label is a different look for Ninkasi’s Flagship Series beers, featuring a simple color palette and clean design. “It was clear this beer required a new approach to focus on the quality of ingredients used,” says Nick Yarger, Ninkasi’s in-house art director. “The label features a subtle Pacific Northwest landscape that matches the experience of the beer, inspiring a deeper understanding of the process and intention put into the liquid itself.”

Both Maiden the Shade and Pacific Rain are marked by a pleasurable hoppiness and delectably enjoyable soft mouthfeel. They both make for easy drinking, especially for their sessionability. Maiden the Shade is available in 12oz. 6-packs, 22oz. bottles and on-draft through September. Pacific Rain is available in 12-ounce 6-packs and draft, year-round.
