Looking to find dozens of the best and freshest IPAs in California?

You’re in luck this weekend if you’re in LA. The fourth annual Los Angeles IPA Festival will be pouring IPAs from more than 60 breweries throughout the state. With this very popular style of craft beer driving a lot of growth in beer consumption, it is fitting that there would be a festival to both celebrate it and to use it in competition.

Presented by Mohawk Bend in Echo Park, which both founded and organized this highly-curated festival, the LA IPA Festival is a celebration of the productivity and ingenuity of the thriving craft community. The festival features an extensive collection of India Pale Ales from across the Golden State plus an all-star judging panel comprised of the best minds (and palates) in California beer.  Since Mohawk Bend only pours beer made from California breweries out of their 72 taps, it made sense to keep it California-specific.

To get a sense of the quality of beers and breweries that will be involved, last year’s first place winner was Highland Park Brewery for Bonkers IPA, the second place winner was Noble Ale Works for Unpossible IPA, and the winner of the People’s Choice Award was Eagle Rock Brewery for The Winning Team. There should be some delicious IPAs being served up!

Both days this weekend, the festivities begin at 9:30am, allowing attendees to maximize their time tasting the variety of IPAs. And attendees need neither tickets nor reservations to take part in the LA IPA Festival. Offering different options each day, the event will feature more of the competitive aspect on Saturday and a more laidback vibe on Sunday.

Saturday’s The Main Event will allow attendees to sample a mind-blowing array of IPAs, many brewed exclusively for the festival, while mixing and mingling with beer world greats. Beers will available for purchase at $5 for 10oz pours. Festival-goers have the opportunity to vote for their favorites for the People’s Choice award, while the panel of judges works through the selection for the main awards. Once all the votes are tallied, the awards ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m., during which the festival will announce the judges’ winners followed by the People’s Choice Award.

At Sunday’s Taste of the LA IPA Fest, guests can enjoy flights of the festival entries all day long. For those looking for a California craft experience at their own pace, Taste of the LA IPA Fest is the perfect chance to catch all the exclusive beer before it's gone. Since Sunday is a more laidback environment, the IPAs will be available for purchase at $13.50 a flight (while supplies last).

For those hopheads in the LA-area, this may be just the event to please your palate this weekend.

Beer is The Answer at Screens 'n' Suds Big Event

When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.
