Downtown LA's cornerstone brewery is celebrating their 5th anniversary this weekend!

Angel City Brewery, located in the heart of DTLA’s Arts District, invites fans to a weekend-long anniversary blowout at their 5th annual Heritage Music & Arts Festival on May 6th and 7th 12-8 pm. What started as a grand opening party in 2012 has now turned into a two-day celebration festival of craft beer and Downtown LA’s culture.

Each day will feature a different line-up of live music, cultural performances, food trucks, a live mural painting by Cali native street artist Young Mer and specialty Angel City beers (full schedule below). Additionally, a portion of each day’s beer garden proceeds will go to the Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association (LARABA), who work to preserve and promote the Art’s District’s creative community.

The art doesn’t stop there either. Attendees are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and take part in the community mural happening all weekend. Similar to a color-by-numbers painting, each participant will have the opportunity to paint in sections of a mural designed by Andy Bauch of Art Share L.A. that highlights the colorful history of the building the brewery is located in. It will then be on display at the brewery until July, when a new community mural will be designed.

What would a brewery anniversary celebration be without a few unique beers for toasting? Angel City Brewery will be serving up a variety of beers that showcase the best of five years of brewing. New offerings will include SMaSH Bock, a traditional Bock made in the SMaSH style (Single Malt and Single Hop) with a big body and slightly sweet, malty flavor, and Ventura Fresa, a tart, barrel aged sour fruit beer aged with Ventura County strawberries. Fans will also be able to sip on brewery mainstays like Angel City IPA, Pilsner and LAger, and bottled classics such as Salted Caramel Gose, Funky Wit and Brettanomyces Bloke.

“We felt that five years and over a thousand batches of beer brewed required a weekend-long party,” said Mark Turocy, general manager for Angel City Brewery. “Heritage Fest is about more than us celebrating another year. It’s about us appreciating the LA culture and community that helped us to get where we are today.”

Beer is The Answer at Screens 'n' Suds Big Event

When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.
