When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.

Anyway, let's get to this epic event at the Answer Brewpub. We parked and walked into a myriad of lights, colors and beer. After seeing the parking lot, no wonder why this place was packed. I walk up to the bar to defuse the taplist and figure our first beer orders. I have seen nice tap list's at bars and I believe it's an art to wonder which beers to first consume. Either way, my beer will be delicious and ready for my consumption.

The beertender walks up and asks for our order, I order the Terrepin Wake-n-bake coffee oatmeal stout for my lady and the Screens 'N' Suds exclusive beer, Hardywood's Menagerie for myself. A blend of barrel aged beers by Hardywood that perplex me in describing them. At best I can say it's dark, sweet in flavor and a medium mouthfeel with an oakey finish. When a beer is as rich and complex as this, it's hard to look through which brings me to my next thought.

When looking to beer, sometimes it brings questions and riddles. Is this what I ordered? A coffee imperial stout? Aged in what? Hopped with? The list goes on. With Mekong's The Answer Brewpub, Beer is the Answer and doesn't need to be complicated. Why did the chicken cross the road? To get his/her beer on the other side. It's not a topic that needs to be muddled with needless banter, only the fine fact that a beer is in front of you. A beer painstakingly created near or far away and placed in your path. Ask yourself, am I making this complicated before I imbibe liquid enjoyment?

By the by, my beer only progresses and transforms into a more wonderful and trans-formative experience as the night goes on. With the sold out upstairs VIP bottle-share and all of the beer choices at every-which turn it's hard for someone not to realize your body is behind you and your beer soul has lived on. I now find myself upstairs and the now brightly lit restaurant becomes a dim and exclusive, beer tasting club. Equipped with scattered tables and lounge booth's the upstairs bar/speakeasy has beer geeks and brewers from Lickinghole Creek, Champion, Ardent and more. An Mekong walks around and mingles with the crowd and flashes his smile and raised glass to the group of people in his immediate presence.

After spending some time upstairs with "whaelz" of beers and genuine beer people. We head downstairs for the raffle and unfortunately were not winners, but many other people went on to win prize packages including posters, brewery swag, and much more. Art vendors and geeks from around the state were on hand selling their work. All tickets and raffle money were donated to the National MS society, Screens 'n' Suds also works with other non-profit organizations in the Virginia area for their events.

We had a blast and enjoyed many beers and many conversations with even greater people. I'm happy we were able to attend this big and epic event put on by Screens 'n' Suds and held at The Answer Brewpub in Richmond Virginia. Please take a peek at the Screens 'n' Suds website and order some beautiful beer inspired art by local Virginia artists.
