On Saturday, May 24th, 2014; Brew Rebellion hosted a Pints for Pitties event to help raise awareness for a misunderstood and under-appreciated dog breed: the pit bull. According to their mission statement:

“Pints for Pitties was established to help foster the awareness and education for pit bulls and other such related ‘bully’ breeds. Our mission is to advocate a positive message about these ‘bully’ breeds in three distinct ways: educating and empowering pet owners to raise healthy and well socialized dogs, partner with rescue organizations in an effort to continue to rescue and find adoptable, loving homes for pit bulls and ‘bully’ breeds, and provide assistance for adoption fees and medical treatments associated with these dogs.”

Brew Rebellion helped in assisting Pints for Pitties by donating a dollar for every beer sold throughout the event to the organization. Pints for Pitties also hosted a booth at the event where they offered event-goers an opportunity to spin a prize wheel. Prizes on the wheel included: dog toys, collars, leashes, dog treats, bracelets, raffle tickets, and even Brew Rebellion pint glasses. They were also selling raffle tickets that would give the purchaser a chance to win prize baskets filled with all of the above. If you are interested in learning more about Pints for Pitties, feel free to visit their website at pintsforpitties.org.

While Pints for Pitties was the main event organizer; they weren’t the only dog friendly organization in attendance. I got a chance to meet Jayne Mendez from San Bernardino Responsible Pit Bull Owners (SBRPBO). She introduced me to a very handsome and well behaved pit bull named Obadiah. You can learn more about this organization by visiting their website at www.sbrpbodogtraining.org. Also in attendance was Bow Wow Barkery, a company dedicated to providing tasty canine treats in a food safe environment. They use only high quality, human grade ingredients and never any additives or preservatives. You can find their website at bow-wowbarkery.com.

I’m sure by now you are saying to yourself, “this is all fine and dandy, but what about the beer?” Well, Brew Rebellion had that covered! Some of the selections on tap for the day included a light and fruity Peach Honey Wheat Ale, two different IPAs (Saunders and Geronimo), a sessionable Hogan coffee bean porter, two varieties of their John Paul Jones stout (white chocolate raspberry and one with amaretto), and of course my name sake beer – Chris Martin s’more porter. They also had an assortment of bottles to choose from that you could take home. For more information on upcoming events at the brewery, visit their website at brewrebellion.com.

And last but not least, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the local roller derby team was also in attendance. Whether they were racing each other through the parking lot or dancing on cars while holding signs and waving at passing traffic; the Yuc-Town Rollin’ Bombshells kept everybody pretty well entertained throughout the day. Check them out on Facebook at facebook.com/ytrbombshells.

Beer is The Answer at Screens 'n' Suds Big Event

When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.
