Ever had a beer cocktail before?

As part of Los Angeles Beer Week, Smog City beertenders will be serving hand-crafted house-made Smog City beer cocktails for Cocktail Hour tomorrow. Taking place at their SteelCraft taproom in Long Beach, beginning at 4pm, they plan on offering at least five different cocktails, each anchored by one of Smog City’s beers.

Whether the base beer is a saison, IPA, or barleywine, these beer cocktails are sure to be quite tasty. These cocktails are unique, as they are reminiscent of your favorite cocktails with no additional alcohol added. Developed by Jason Briseno and Jenn Hadar, these cocktails simulate familiar flavors using cordials, dehydrated fruit, and herbal infusions.

The list of beer cocktails planned to be available tomorrow are as follows:

  • ·        Fruta y Flor - Hoptango Mango IPA (IPA) with pineapple falernum in a collins glass, garnished with basil leaf and edible flowers
  • ·        Little Bo Michelada - Little Bo Pils (pilsner) with housemade michelada mix and chile tajine rim
  • ·        Old-Fashioned O.E. - Bourbon O.E. (English Barleywine) with a dash of old-fashioned and orange bitters, garnished with flamed orange peel
  • ·        Snuggle & Smash - Snugglebug (American wild ale) with berries and mint muddled in a tulip with peppercorn/mint syrup and a mint sprig garnish
  • ·        Spicy Tango - Pinkies Out (tangerine saison) with agave serrano cordial, garnished with a tangerine wheel

With Briseno having designed the Old-Fashioned O.E. for Smog City's anniversary party last year, according to Laurie Porter, one of the owners of Smog City Brewing, they decided to bring it back. "We love the creativity and challenge of creating a beer cocktail without adding liquor," says Porter. "It's exciting to see what can be created with cordials, infusions and dehydrated fruits."

The cocktails, which will be sold for $7 each, will be limited and available tomorrow from 4pm until they run out. Smog City’s taproom at SteelCraft is located at 3768 Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach, CA.

Beer is The Answer at Screens 'n' Suds Big Event

When most beer geeks look at their elixir filled glass, one either gazes at or thinks of ways to unmask it. Evaluating and demystifying to find the purpose or wonder of that particular beer. Either the brewer had the intention, the mistake, or the unknown with said brew. Labels can only take us so far into the imagination or process and concoction of said brew. Tonight for the Screens N' Suds 'Big Event' held at The Answer Brewpub, side project of An Mekong of Mekong Restaurant fame. The only answer needed to this question is hand made craft beer.
