Local Brews Local Grooves - House of Blues Anaheimin Events
Coming to SoCal in little more than a week is the fifth annual Local Brews, Local Grooves event at House of Blues, Anaheim.
Featuring SoCal's finest breweries, hottest bands, and tastiest foods, Local Brews, Local Grooves will be taking place on April 17th in the afternoon. With 16 breweries and 15 bands, attendees will be able to taste local brews while enjoying listening to local bands.
Exciting beers such as Darkstar November, Bourbon County Stout and Bourbon County Barleywine, and Goose Island Lolita, will be on-tap, alongside over 100 beers, including some rare beers. While many of the beers will be local, there will also be beers from beyond Orange County as beers from the following breweries will be poured: Anchor Brewing, Ballast Point, Bell's, Bottle Logic, Coronado, Crispin Cider, Elysian Brewing, Firestone Walker, Golden Road, Goose Island, Left Coast, Ninkasi, Noble Ale Works, Sierra Nevada, Stone Brewing, and Valiant Brewing.
In addition to these 16 breweries, the following 15 bands will be performing on three different stages, ranging in a variety of genres: Alexandra Jack, Alice Wallace, Big Monsta, Bird & The War, Gardeners Logic, Moonlight Graham, Morgan Mallory, Nobles, Spirit Mother, Taylor Akey, The Brevet, The Standard Affiliates, Thrift, Vinnie & The Hooligans, Wetwood Smokes. The bands will be performing 30-minute sets each, rotating on three different stages.
There's more to Local Brews, Local Grooves than just beer and music, as there will also be a handful of food stations set up around the venue. With five different stations, there will be an adult ice cream station, featuring a stout ice cream, a panini station (with options of either a Louisiana chicken panini or a fried egg panini), a build your own waffle station (including fried chicken, whip cream, syrup, and macerated strawberries), as well as options to get a double cheeseburger, and a Chicago hot dog.
For general admission, which is $12, one gets into the venue from noon until 6pm to listen to the music and opportunities to purchase tasting wristbands for beer and food. Wristbands with five tasting tabs, which can be used for purchasing either food or beer, can be purchased for $15. Each 4oz pour of beer costs one tab, while food costs 1-3 tabs. Wristbands also get attendees five hours of parking in Downtown Disney, which is really helpful. If one buys two wristbands, attendees get a complimentary pretzel necklace. If one wants to upgrade their experience, VIP packages may be purchased for $60, which comes with two entry tickets, two tasting wrist bands, a food voucher, a retail item voucher, and admittance to the venue an hour earlier at 11am. Furthermore, VIP attendees have access to a VIP area upstairs, which is first come, first served.
When they first started Local Brews, Local Grooves, "we thought only 1,000 people would show up," said Thomas Towning, the director of venue operations for House of Blues, Anaheim, "and 2,200 showed up." With over 3,100 in attendance at the second and almost 5,000 for the third ("it was pretty intense"), Towning expects 5,000 people in attendance at this year's event. With over 100 beers and 9 beers, in particular from Ballast Point, Towning says that he tries "to get as many rare beers as possible," adding "I'm excited to see what Sierra Nevada brings." As to the bands, Towning says that The Brevet is "probably one of the more exciting ones," while "Big Monsta is always a lot of fun." The genres of the bands are "all over the place," said Towning, who admitted "I don't know even how to describe it."
