Celebrating 329 days of sun in Los Angeles, one LA brewery had a festival for the occasion.

Golden Road Brewing hosted their second annual 329 Day Carnival last night to celebrate the 329 days of sun every year that LA receives on, fittingly, 3/29. The featured beer of the event was their 329 Days of Sun Lager along with some specialty variations.

Providing a carnivalesque feel to the evening, Golden Road brought in tents and had a taort card reader, games, a photo booth, a man on stilts, and more. Accompanied by live music and the occasional passing train from the adjacent railroad tracks, the evening was a lively atmosphere. With most of the attendees in their 20s-30s, the evening had a fun-filled and relaxed vibe.

Alongside the carnival set-up, there were two bars set-up pouring the beer of the day. The 329 Days of Sun Lager (henceforth, 329 Lager) is Golden Road’s “go anywhere, do anything lager is full-flavored and easy-drinking with a clean, crisp finish.” Clocking in at 4.8% ABV, it is an easily sessionable lager.

In addition to the 329 Lager were special variations of the beer, only available for the occasion, all of which were delicious. Both the DJ Jazzi Jeff, the 329 Lager with Jasmine, and the Mjöd, the 329 Lager with Orange Blossom Honey and Juniper Berries, were nicely floral, the latter of which had some deliciously delicate honey notes, as well.

For those looking for a hoppy beer, the Hop My Lager, the 329 Lager dry-hopped with saphir, mosaic, galaxy, and citra hops, was a great way to go. As someone who enjoys IPAs more than lagers, this was definitely an enjoyable lager, with a noticeable amount of pineyness.

The final two variations were the ones, though, that really stole the night. The Pico to Mexico, the 329 Lager with cucumber, habañero, lime, and salt, was phenomenally refreshing, with a striking presence of cucumber. While the heat from the habanero was practically non-existent, it is an incredibly refreshing beer and would be awesome on warm days. The only knock against it would be to have more heat, unless one isn’t a fan of some spice, then it may be just what you’re thirsting for.

The variation that was mind-blowing was their Not That Sauce, the 329 Lager with Portola coffee on nitro, which started out with a lovely coffee nose. The nose then gave way to a beer with fantastic soft smoothness on the palate with great coffee flavoring. As if the beer wasn’t enjoyable enough, the lingering coffee flavor on the finish was pleasantly accompanied by some berry sweetness, vaguely reminiscent of an espresso shot. Having never had a coffee lager served on nitro, it was a very neat treat.

The evening was a very pleasant one in which to experience both Golden Road as well as their unique offerings of their 329 Lager. Here’s to more days of sun!
