There are a lot of people in the beer industry who call themselves “Doctor” even though their lack of credentials is staggering. This is not the case with Blue Moon Brewing Company founder and head brewmaster Keith Villa.
The Beer Geek Radio crew recently got a chance to visit Bread & Barley in downtown Covina, California to record the final episode of our Saison De Biere Geek Tournament. It was the first visit for all three of us and I can confidently say that we were all very impressed with not only the beer, but the people, the food, and the ambiance as well.
The Los Angeles Beer Competition is one of the most prestigious beer competitions in California. Calling from licensed brewpubs and breweries from the United States and as far as Iceland, Belgium, Japan and other areas. All to enter their beers for judging across all 84 traditional categories. Breweries enter a wide array of beers across these categories and wining is a big deal and is often displayed on brewery websites and hung with pride in their tasting rooms and offices.
Karl Strauss recently celebrated 25 years of brewing by celebrating the annual Changing of the Barrels. An event that honors the life and reputation of Karl Strauss' beers and the release of their 25th anniversary "Barrel Aged Doppelbock." It was held Saturday, February 8th at the Karl Strauss Brewery and Tasting Room at 5985 Santa Fe Street in the brewery's hometown of San Diego, California.
The second annual OC Brew Ho Ho fell upon a cold and rainy Saturday morning at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim California on December 7th. For those unfamiliar with the Brew Ho Ho, it's the sister event to the OC Brew Ha Ha. Providing craft beer fans with live music, shopping, and exceptional craft beer from local and out of town breweries. The weather did not stop attendees from having a holly jolly good time with craft beer.
It's that time of year again, when we (the craft beer fans of LA/OC.) Are blessed with the craft beer dedicated events in and around the greater Los Angeles area for the fifth incarnation of LA Beer Week. Myself being the BierBuzz Orange County Rep, I look forward to the opportunity and chatting with fans of craft beer at these events about BierBuzz.
On Saturday September 7th, Orange County beer geeks, beer fans, and beer in general. Descended upon the grounds of Oak Canyon Park, the area surrounding Irvine Lake, in Silverado California. This was my first Brew Ha Ha, and I have always heard amazing things so I had high hopes for this beer fest benefiting the Fallen Firefighters Relief Fund. The Brew Ha Ha also had guest speakers David Walker from Firestone Walker, Greg Koch and Dr Bill Sysak from Stone Brewing.
